New Evansville Arena Project Seeks Public Art Proposals
EVANSVILLE, IN – The new Evansville Arena Project has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a work of public art that will be placed in the new arena’s plaza at the corner of Sixth and Main Streets in downtown Evansville.
The RFP, developed in cooperation with the Evansville Public Art Commission and the Evansville Arena Project Committee, invites artists or teams of artists to submit proposals for a sculpture that will be a focal point for the new arena and for the City.
“The imaginative design of our new arena has always anticipated the installation of a site-specific artistic statement in the plaza,” Arena Project Director John J. Kish said. “We look forward to creative, intriguing and inspired proposals.”
The new 290,000 square-foot Evansville Arena, opening in late 2011, will be the region’s center for sports and entertainment, designed to host basketball, hockey, concerts, exhibitions and shows for audiences as large as 11,000.
Competition for the commission to design, fabricate and install the artwork is open to all artists eligible to work in the United States. The new Evansville Arena Project will publicize the opportunity in arts media throughout the country.
A PDF file of the Request for Proposals is available at the new Evansville Arena Project website, located at http://www.evansvillearenaproject.com/content/vendor-information. The deadline for proposals is Friday, October 15th at 5:00 p.m. CDT.
A panel of individuals identified by the Arena Project, the Evansville Public Art Commission and the Arena Project Committee will review submissions. That group, which will not include any artists seeking consideration, will select some of the proposals for further development and presentation to the Arena Project Committee and the Evansville Public Art Commission for comment. Following receipt of those comments, a final recommendation will be submitted to the Evansville Redevelopment Commission.
